ENG 101: Nursing Composition addresses the major principles of college writing through both a Nursing and Social Justice lens. The course concentrates on expository and argumentative writing; traditional and contemporary rhetorical modes; and effective composing, revising, and editing strategies. Nursing Composition covers APA conventions and requires a six-eight page research paper that addresses inequity in healthcare.
Students will be exposed to past and present texts that interrogate race and expose healthcare inequities. These texts will not only illuminate discriminatory and oppressive healthcare practices, but they will also create the space for individually and collectively engaging in generative classroom conversations and agentive writing assignments that speak to and disrupt inequitable power practices.
In an attempt to effectively support students in successfully completing Nursing Composition, I will be hosting live, in-person sessions for our hybrid course on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10-10:50 am in Taconic 314. Please attend class if you are able to do so. Moreover, I will be hosting office hours on Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm and Thursdays from 11:30 am – 12:30 pm. You can schedule your office appointment hours here. Please take advantage of the resources I am providing, and feel free to contact me at jordan.bell@sunydutchess.edu if there is anything else that I can do to support you.
